Phillips Senseo Review, Cheap Coffee Makers

We received a Senseo coffee machine as a housewarming gift recently. I enjoy coffee but this isn’t something that I would have chosen to purchase as I was perfectly happy with a cup of instant or using a cafétiere on a Sunday morning. However, I was more than pleasantly surprised at how easy this was to use and how quickly you could get a really good, fresh cup of coffee.

The Senseo was supplied with a packet of coffee pods which meant that we could use it straight away (once you have gone through the cleaning procedure as per the instructions for first time use). One of the best things about this machine is that you can make coffee for several people at different strengths as you can buy medium roast, dark roast or decaf. What is more, the decaf is actually rather nice! A packet of 18 pods is around £2.60 so considerably more expensive than either instant or filter coffee. Some supermarkets have their own brand but these don’t seem to be a patch on the Dowe Egberts ones supplied for Phillips.

There are a couple of downsides to the Senseo the first being that if you have white coffee the temperature cools significantly and you need to drink this pretty much straightaway. The other slightly frustrating thing is that if you want to make coffee for several people you are constantly putting in new pods and placing mugs under the spout, it does get slightly tiresome. A feature I would have liked incorporated would be a ‘jug’ facility or multiple cup facility of some sort. Another downside is that if you ever have to drink instant coffee again, you will probably crave a Senseo straightaway!
