PHILIPS HR2001 Food Processor Review
Every mum would agree, when cooking for their babies, a blender or a food processor is a necessity. So when my son started on the solid foods I went to search for one. I wanted something simple and also cheap. On the Tesco shelves I found such a helper – food blender Philips HR2001.
This blender is intended for fine pureeing, chopping and blending. It consists of the motor unit; control knob with pulse setting, used to process ingredients very briefly, and speed settings; blender blade unit; sealing ring; plastic blender jar with level indication up to 1250 ml. and hinged lid with measuring cup inserted in its opening. All the parts assemble very easy. The blade unit with sealing ring is screwed onto the bottom of the blender jar, then the jar is fixed on the motor unit by turning it clockwise and the ingredients can go in. Of course the lid, including the measuring cup has to be hinged and closed before use.
The blender is perfect for pureeing which I used it for the most, whereas the chopping is not its strongest point. While some of the pieces are already chopped, there are most of the time some untouched, where the blade doesn’t reach, so you have to turn off the blender and move them around with a spoon and start again. The exception was chopping a meat for my little one, when he wasn’t eating purees any more. Instead of chopping it on the plate, I placed the meat with its juices into the blender and turned it on very briefly.
To clean this blender after use is very quick and easy, which is its biggest advantage. All the removable parts are washable in the dishwasher or if washed in the sink, the plastic jar is much easier to handle than a heavy glass one.
Unfortunately, thinking I can make puree from anything, I was dissapointed. When I was blending potatoes, even after adding enough milk to make smooth mash, the blender had to be turned on for so long to achieve that, that the motor simply overheated. It started to smell of burning and when I lifted the jar, there was a little bit of smoke coming out from the motor unit. Despite of this incident, the blender still works without any problems. I did use it again for potatoes many times after that. By just turning it off and after a while on again, I avoided the overheating.
As for the design, Philips HR2001 is exactly what I was looking for. Maybe just having a smaller jar as well as the big one would be a real advantage. Overall for its price and the convenience I am really satisfied with this product and even though my son is not a baby any more, we still enjoy soups, sauces and delicious milkshakes made in this blender.
